UPS will become the primary air cargo provider for the United States Postal Service. The Atlanta shipping company said Monday that it had received an air cargo contract from the U.S. UPS will move the majority of air cargo in the U.S. for the postal service following a transition period, according to UPS. USPS’s current air cargo contract with FedEx Corp. is set to expire in late September. Last month the International Air Transport Association said that total demand for air cargo, which is measured in cargo ton-kilometers, climbed 18.4% in January compared with the prior-year period.

Full-year profit rose 11% to 18.6 billion euros . Stellantis' North American revenues, accounting for nearly half of the carmaker’s total, dropped 5.6% in the second half of the year to 40.5 billion euros from 43 billion euros on lower shipments that eroded its market share. Stellantis’ European revenues were flat in the second half of the year at 31.7 billion euros. Stellantis paid shareholders 6.6 billion euros last year through dividends and buybacks, up 53% from 2022. The carmaker said it plans to increase dividend payments by 16% this year, to 1.55 euros per share, and buy back another 3 billion euros in shares.

Sales rose 24% to $2 billion, up from $1.61 billion a year earlier. It expects full-year profit of $11.74 to $11.94 per share, compared with a prior range of $11.50 to $11.72. That also topped analysts' expectations, which called for $11.61 per share, according to Refinitiv. Flexport plans to integrate Deliverr, an e-commerce fulfillment company Shopify acquired for $2.1 billion last year, into its global logistics offering. Clark called the Shopify assets the "last piece" the company needed to extend its reach from the manufacturer to the end consumer. It may be the last acquisition needed to complete a "port to porch" service, as Clark described it. Relief Efforts in Turkey, Syria Face Logistical Hurdles

Aid groups and logistics operators worldwide are ramping up urgent relief efforts for victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria but say moving supplies through the region’s devastated infrastructure will be a major challenge. Mr. Hovey said Direct Relief plans to fly supplies to airports at Istanbul in northwestern Turkey and at Adana in southeastern Turkey, close to the disaster zone. Many U.S. charities without aid operations in Syria and Turkey are now planning relief efforts, said Kathy Fulton, executive director of American Logistics Aid Network, which coordinates aid efforts among logistics operators following disasters. Aid groups are mostly focused on getting relief to Turkey and Syria by plane. He said the demand for air charters is also starting to make it harder and more expensive to secure space for aid and relief efforts in other parts of the world, such as Ukraine.

Freight forwarder Flexport Inc. is cutting about 20% of its global workforce, or more than 600 workers, as the digital-focused business copes with falling shipping demand and repositions its operations to offer more supply-chain services. Mr. Petersen in June had estimated gross revenue of nearly $5 billion in 2022. The layoffs come amid a broader pullback in freight demand since the middle of last year as inflation has taken a toll on consumer demand and retailers have pulled back from earlier inventory restocking efforts. Mr. Clark, who led Amazon.com Inc.’s logistics expansion over his 20-plus years with the company, started as co-CEO at Flexport in September alongside the freight forwarder’s founder, Mr. Petersen. Mr. Clark is scheduled to fully take over the day-to-day leadership role on March 1, the company has said, and Mr. Petersen will then become executive chairman.

The San Francisco-based company named Ms. Carlson president and chief commercial officer, overseeing sales, marketing and communications, Flexport said Thursday. Ms. Carlson specializes in cloud computing. Mr. Clark in September took on the role of Flexport co-CEO alongside the company’s founder and CEO Ryan Petersen. Mr. Clark has hired former Amazon employees including public-relations executive Kelly Cheeseman, logistics executive Parisa Sadrzadeh and human-resources executive Darcie Henry.
French container line CMA CGM sees the ownership of cargo terminals at U.S. ports as the next step in its bid to extend its shipping business into greater inland logistics. “Port terminals are an essential piece of the supply-chain efficiency, being at the crossroads of sea and land operations,” said Christine Cabau Woehrel, CMA CGM Group’s executive vice president of operations and assets. CMA CGM earned $17.9 billion in net profits in 2021 and its earnings in the first three quarters of this year reached more than $20.4 billion. The purchases come as CMA CGM is spending billions to buy logistics operations and more recently launch an airfreight service. China’s Cosco Shipping Ports has expanded its terminal operations around the world in concert with expansion by state-owned Cosco Shipping Lines.

In 2017, Nike was trying to get 60-day lead times down to 10 days. Brands can't chase trends successfully if they lack any semblance of certainty on when goods will arrive — the pandemic certainly stripped that away. Victoria's Secret's chief financial officer, Tim Johnson, said on a Thursday earnings call that the company should regain the supply-chain confidence to chase trends next year.
